Named after the previous owners of the Gibside estate which originally embraced
the golf course. The owners were first known as the Bowes family and then subsequently
as the Earls of Strathmore. The Gibside estate itself is now owned by the National Trust.

Golfer's Tip
This is the first of the Par 3s and presents a birdie opportunity if you can
hit the green with your tee-shot. There is an avenue of trees to catch any
wayward shots and a bunker at the front left and right hand sides of the green.
Bushes are at the back of the green. The putting surface slopes from left
to right and also there is a gentle slope from the back of the green down
towards the front.
